HOW DOES TOOTH DECAY OCCUR?

Bacterial plaque, which consists of bacteria in the mouth and their sticky secretion dextrans, forms acids from the leftovers of sugary and floury foods. These acids dissolve the mineral tissue of the teeth, causing the enamel of the tooth to deteriorate and ultimately the onset of tooth decay.

The first sign of tooth decay is a white stain on the tooth surface. At this stage, decay can be stopped and reversed. The white spot indicates which area of the enamel has lost mineral. After a while, the mineral loss becomes large enough to make a hole. If this loss continues, the soft inner parts of the tooth are also affected and the destructive process accelerates. The treatment is at best a large filling.

TOOTH-COLORED FILLINGS

Composite fillings are tooth-colored fillings used for caries, fractures and aesthetic purposes. These fillings are placed layer by layer in prepared cavities and each layer is hardened with a special light. They are aesthetic and economical. They are bonded to the tooth with a special adhesive called bonding.
They do not cause unnecessary loss of material in the tooth because they can hold on. Since there may be a very small shrinkage during hardening, their lifespan is not as long as porcelain fillings. Composite fillings change color due to the use of substances containing staining agents such as cigarettes, tea, coffee, cola, soy.

PORCELAIN INLAY-ONLAY FILLINGS

Porcelain fillings are fillings with superior aesthetics and durability prepared in the laboratory. Compared to composite fillings, they are much more compatible with the tooth and neighboring teeth. This harmony is due to the fact that the filling is prepared in a laboratory environment outside the mouth. After the broken, decayed or old filled part of the tooth is removed, the remaining healthy part is measured and sent to the laboratory. In the laboratory environment, the model prepared with a sensitive technology is taken to the special IPS machine and fillings with ideal aesthetics and function are obtained.

IPS porcelain (Leucide reinforced pressable porcelain) fillings are among the most suitable materials for tooth tissue among the intraoral restoration materials available in the world. Advanced technology is used in the preparation of this porcelain filling.

In the IPS filling method, healthy tooth tissue in the mouth is not touched. Maximum retention is achieved with minimum material loss. Since they are made of a special compressed porcelain and are not hardened in the mouth, edge leakage is minimal (This prevents under-filling caries and filling falling out).

In addition, these porcelains are materials close to the hardness of the tooth and compatible with the gums. Since its hardness is very close to the enamel tissue of the tooth, it does not abrade the teeth like other porcelains, and it does not wear itself in the mouth like composite fillings.

It should be preferred instead of composite fillings or crowns, especially in cases of large material loss.

COMPOSITE INLAY-ONLAY FILLINGS

These are fillings prepared from composite material outside the mouth and applied to the tooth. After the broken or decayed part of the tooth is removed, the cavity is measured and the filling is prepared with the help of this model. The prepared filling is applied to the tooth with special adhesives. Composite inlay-onlays are used in cavities too large for composite filling. Since they harden outside the mouth, they have fewer shrinkage problems, but they are still not as durable and aesthetic as porcelain fillings. They can be preferred because they are economical.
